Bitcoin’s [$BTC] latest pullback reflects a failed attempt to break the $87,100 resistance that has capped its recovery. After pushing into that zone, Bitcoin reversed sharply, falling nearly 4% toward $83,800 as selling intensified.

However, the decline has so far stopped above the $82,900-$83,000 range floor. In turn, this keeps the broader recovery structure intact. Meanwhile, RSI has fallen from near overbought levels toward 52.

In other words, this simply shows that the September rally has lost momentum rather than fully reversing.

As such, $BTC is at present testing whether it will be possible for buying interest to hold the cost basis zone near $84,000 – $86,500.

Maintaining this zone may create conditions favorable for another test of resistance. However, losing $83,000 would weaken the recovery and expose $80,000, increasing downside pressure.

$BTC STH profits hit $1B

The pressure is shifting from price resistance to profit-taking, as Short-Term Holders (STH) have more incentive to sell. The STH’s 7-day average Realized Profit rose from $136 million to approximately $1.05 billion.

This illustrates the rapid increase in profit-taking during Bitcoin’s recovery. Further, this increase creates an environment where current buyers will realize significantly greater profits when they trade coins, producing increased supply at the present price level.

This increased selling incentive explains why it was difficult for $BTC to stay above $87,000 and reinforces the need for strong demand. If holders begin to lock in their gains, exchange inflows may remain high and help cap the price below resistance.

However, if profit realization begins to slow down, there will be less available supply, which should provide the opportunity for buyers to regain some of the momentum lost.

Accumulation pressure builds

Bitcoin’s rebound is currently experiencing a less dramatic transition in owner behavior. As a result, both accumulation and distribution bands have dramatically narrowed.

The contraction of the bands indicates that several groups that were previously actively buying or selling Bitcoin are not making significant changes in either direction.

The significance of these bands lies in their similarity to 2025, when the band was narrow before subsequent increases in price.

Moreover, the present setup has occurred while the price of $BTC has increased towards $85,000. This indicates that owners are buying their way back into their positions rather than aggressively liquidating them.

As long as this equilibrium continues to be maintained, then demand may have a clearer path forward to challenge the next level at $87,000.

However, should sellers expand their sales activity again, then the aforementioned bullish opportunity will be weakened, limiting potential upside.

Final Summary

  • Bitcoin remains below $87,100 as short-term holder profits rise to $1.05 billion, increasing potential selling pressure.
  • $BTC needs to hold $83,000 while accumulation remains stable to maintain its recovery and retest $87,100.
