Block Inc. added 120 Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet during the third quarter of 2026. That brings the company’s total holdings to 9,237 $BTC.

The purchase surfaced in Block’s Q3 2026 earnings release on November 3, 2026.

The numbers behind the stack

As of September 30, 2026, Block’s Bitcoin was valued at approximately $771.9 million. The company’s cost basis on that position is estimated at $318.6 million.

The funding method matters as much as the purchase itself. Block paid for the 120 $BTC by reinvesting part of the gross profit generated by its Bitcoin ecosystem, which runs mainly through Cash App transactions.

That ecosystem had a rough quarter, though. Bitcoin ecosystem gross profit fell 50% year over year to $52 million.

Block pinned the drop on deliberate fee cuts. The company lowered fees to make Cash App’s Bitcoin services more accessible and to improve its on-ramp, the process of converting regular dollars into Bitcoin.

The rest of the business carried the quarter

Zoom out and Block’s broader results looked healthy. Total gross profit climbed 22% year over year to $3.24 billion in Q3.

Management liked what it saw enough to raise full-year 2026 gross profit guidance to $12.626 billion.

That context frames the Bitcoin numbers. A 50% slide in one segment stings less when the overall company is growing at a healthy clip. The Bitcoin ecosystem’s $52 million is a small piece of a $3.24 billion quarterly gross profit total.

A treasury strategy that started in 2020

Block, which trades on the NYSE under the ticker XYZ, first began accumulating Bitcoin for its corporate treasury in October 2020. The move came under co-founder Jack Dorsey, one of the most vocal Bitcoin advocates among big-tech executives.

Since then, the company’s approach has been steady and unglamorous. Block accumulates Bitcoin based on profit generation rather than speculative trading. It has not sold any of its investment Bitcoin since the strategy began in 2020.

That consistency has made Block one of the larger public corporate Bitcoin holders. The company previously ranked near 14th in Bitcoin treasury aggregations.

What this means for investors and the corporate Bitcoin playbook

For Block shareholders, the Bitcoin position is a growing line item with a meaningful unrealized gain. With holdings valued at approximately $771.9 million against an estimated $318.6 million cost basis, the stack has become material to the balance sheet.

The more interesting tension sits inside Cash App. Block is cutting Bitcoin fees to drive adoption, and that is shrinking the very profit pool it uses to fund purchases. If fee cuts keep compressing ecosystem gross profit, the size of future quarterly buys could shrink too, since they are pegged to that revenue.

Block’s approach also offers a contrast to the more aggressive corporate treasury playbooks that lean on debt or equity raises to buy Bitcoin. Funding purchases from operating profit is slower, but it avoids diluting shareholders or loading up on leverage.

Finally, the raised full-year guidance of $12.626 billion gives Block room to keep the strategy running.
