AmericanFortress partners with Sumsub to bring verified IDs to crypto

AmericanFortress, a privacy and post-quantum security layer for blockchains, has partnered with Sumsub, a crypto trust infrastructure provider, to introduce verified digital identities (IDs) to crypto through its FortressID system.
The integration thus brings Sumsub’s identity and business verification, fraud prevention, and other monitoring capabilities to AmericanFortress’s ecosystem, Finbold was told by the two partners in a press release.
In other words, the main goal of the two companies is to help crypto users establish trust without compromising control over their personal information.
Reusable identity technology in cryptio
Once the AmericanFortress Wallet and software development kit (SDK) have launched, each paid custom FortressName will include one Sumsub identity verification with no additional costs. This reusable identity system will verify users and generate a credential that AmericanFortress will associate with their chosen name to create a FortressID.
Likewise, every wallet will receive a free name upon signup. The first partner namespace is 0G’s .0gm domain, where buyers of paid names will receive the included verification and FortressID.
FortressName allows users to replace lengthy blockchain wallet addresses with human-readable identifiers, for example, @alice.0gm. Each name can work across multiple blockchains, with 13 networks supported at launch.
“Through FortressID, a single Sumsub verification becomes a decentralized digital credential users can carry with them, choosing who sees it and what it reveals,” Christian Nunez, a Senior Partnerships Manager at Sumsub, told Finbold.
Enhanced user privacy with FortressID
With FortressID, users retain control over their crypto ID information and choose what information they share and when. Through FortressChat, AmericanFortress’s encrypted messaging service, users can also share signed proofs of specific actions or claims without revealing the underlying identity document itself.
Reusable identity fixes a long-standing issue, where users reverify on new platforms and leave copies of their documents behind each time. Counterparties get assurance that the person on the other side has been properly checked, and the user doesn’t have to give up their privacy for it,” Nunez added.
For example, a user could prove they are over 18 or reside in a particular jurisdiction without disclosing additional personal information. Alternatively, they can choose to reveal their driver’s license, according to AmericanFortress.
Verified names will have a badge that indicates that a user has completed verification without exposing the details of their identity credential. Once a verified user shares their FortressID with a counterparty, subsequent payments from that name can carry the associated proof.
A privacy-focused approach to blockchain transactions
In conclusion, AmericanFortress said it does not maintain a centralized repository of any identity-related data, nor does it record identity details on a blockchain. Furthermore, the company stressed that a FortressID alone does not allow third parties to determine which wallet addresses are associated with any given username.
“We think your identity should sit with you, attached to the name you get paid at, and shown only to the people you choose. Sumsub gives that identity the standard a bank would accept. We make it yours,” Michal Pospieszalski, Founder and CEO of AmericanFortress, further commended.
Ultimately, in short, the partnership combines identity verification infrastructure with a privacy-focused approach to blockchain transactions, which allows users to disclose specific aspects of their identity while retaining full control over their data.
